Chasmosaurus was a species of herbivorous dinosaur.
Large, herbivorous quadrupeds, Chasmosaurus were known to keep together in herds or family collectives as they grazed. Atop their heads were large, bony frills that served as protection from predators, along with three short horns, two above the eyes, the third at the end of the beak. Young Chasmosaurus did not develop their horns until they were older, and males sported larger, longer horns than females.
Among the dinosaurs and various creatures that had survived the mass extinctions that widely wiped out the dinosaurs was Chasmosaurus, which resided among others in the Dinosaur World, a vast subterranean valley beneath the world above, untouched by the changes that had occurred in the rest of the world.
Behind the Scenes
- Chasmosaurus in the films was shown to be determined as male or female by its horn size: scientists are currently unsure of how to tell males from females.
